seamless onboarding

You're a university administrator who has to process 500 enrollments daily for uni students on a web application that students can hardly navigate on their mobile phones.

Imagine being that student.

methodology:  design thinking   | client engagements and workshops

empathy mapping: 'a day in the life of'...

various departments: to establish who all the role players are in the registration process

but then...

the systems thinking approach proved to be more useful. I had already spent sufficient time getting to know the various role-players.

what has to be done and not so much who has to do what

problem statement

onboarding is a tedious process that can only be done on-site. confusion: “what is an ’enrollment’ ?”

administration’s inability to onboard students on time.

too many walk-ins. applicants dropping off at the time of registration/ enrollment, reducing the number of retained students

less enrolled applicants = institution not meeting their numbers  = affect on ROI

key findings

something I picked up was that a university registration process boils down to:

the subject

where the subject is attended

and the fees of those subjects

the faculty

the department

the fees office

which are represented as...

value proposition

the faster the student can move through the onboarding process, the less chance of dropoffs.

increasing the chances of keeping the high-achieving applicant the institution is after.

in the end

the impact

(business goals)

Better UI to improve intuitiveness and accessibility

A better user interface (UI) improves the user experience and makes it easier for users to use the application. Students can now swiftly and smoothly finish this onboarding process. This user happiness creates a positive first impression, which reduces the likelihood of users leaving and increases

user retention.

Lower bounce rate, efficient and streamlined process

We have aided our clients on the administrative side by expediting the onboarding procedure; the faster students finish this, the faster the administrator can process enrolments.

future considerations

The virtual wallet turns into a student dashboard that encompasses all resources and tools necessary throughout student’s academic journey

a mobile view administration dashboard so staff can process enrollments on-the-go.
